Program Spotlight: Kindergarten

Screen Shot 2016-08-25 at 7.26.31 AMKindergarten is an important milestone for parents and children alike, marking the beginning of a child’s formal school career. At Golden Pond School, our full-day Kindergarten curriculum not only exceeds the Virginia Standards of Learning, but also integrates the experiential learning methods and theme-based approach of the Golden Pond Way.

In our center-based classrooms, our creative and professional teachers lead GPS students in reading and math activities, social studies, science, geography, art, music and Spanish. Students also have opportunities to explore themes through educational field trips, including visits to historical landmarks such the U.S. Capitol Building and tadpole hunting at Rust Nature Sanctuary in Leesburg, Virginia.

Our full-day kindergarten, which runs from 8:30am-2:30pm Monday – Friday, can also be combined with our Extended School program. In addition to providing Golden Pond parents with extra flexibility in drop-off and pick-up times, it provides children with a structured environment for learning and play from 7:30am-6pm. Extended school includes thematic hands-on activities, center time, story time, homework time, afternoon snack and outdoor recess
