HISTORY

We thought you would like to know a little bit more about us. We are a married couple (35 + years) combining Kathie’s deep teaching experience, advanced studies in early childhood development and passion for education with Steve’s extensive business experience.

Kathie is not a newcomer to early childhood education. Following graduation from Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles, Kathie went on to San Francisco State College where she studied an extra year to gain her California Lifetime Teaching Credential (K-9). This was followed by twenty years of pre and lower school teaching that saw her in San Francisco, Phoenix, São Paulo (Brazil), Brussels (Belgium), Houston and, finally, London. She has been highly regarded by parents, faculty and administration at every location. Along the way, she also managed to raise two children to become very successful, well-adjusted adults.

In 1995, Kathie read an article that described some of the very recent advances in brain research and how the new knowledge might apply to early childhood education—her specialty. She was excited about the potential to improve how we go about educating our children. This led to reading everything she could find on the subject, much of which was steeped in science and biology. Further stimulated by this reading, Kathie took a leave of absence from her teaching position in London and returned to the USA to pursue a Master of Science in Education with a focus on early childhood development. Following the completion of her graduate studies at Portland State (Oregon), Kathie returned to her old job in London where she was able to apply her new concepts at the kindergarten level for one year and at the “Scramblers” (3 year olds) level for one year.
